Mt. Foraker, Mt. Hunter and Mt. McKinley

The bus stopped at scenic lookout about 45 minutes north of Anchorage. If you trotted away from the main group taking photos from the parking lot, you soon found your shoes squishing in peat marsh, but were rewarded with a breathtaking view of (left to right) Mounts Foraker, Hunter and McKinley. The size reduction in these photos makes the first one look distant. Not so - they appeared larger in real life. Let's zoom the camera...

Now, that's more like it. Fortunately I took several zoomed photographs. Above we see Mount Hunter on the left and Mount McKinley obscured in clouds on the right. Mt. McKinley's summit is cloud-obscured nearly all the time, especially during the summer, with perhaps 5 or 6 clear days a year during tourist season, so if you visit Alaska and see the summit of Mt. McKinley, color yourself lucky.

I've been insanely lucky on both of my trips to Alaska, and there are clear pictures of the summit during our helicopter tour in the next section.

And finally, a moderately zoomed photograph showing all three peaks. The lake wasn't very wide, so from the parking lot, the mountains didn't reflect on the water as nicely as they do here. Wow, this vista was a real find, wasn't it? I bet it's really beautiful from here at sunrise.
