Pictures from around Nome, Alaska

Our tour guide, George, displays a set of moose antlers. George was a unique personality - he seemed genuinely happy, was most friendly and very knowledgeable about the sights we saw during the day. I'd have to say George was my favorite tour guide on this trip to Alaska. So if you ever stumble onto this page, George, thank you, and send an email to say hi.

The skies over Nome must have cleared and clouded three or four times during the day - it's amazing how quickly the weather can change in Alaska. Here we see a cloudburst over the Bering Sea near Howard Farley's homestead. The debris is collected driftwood that's washed up on the beach over the years. It takes a storm to deposit the larger pieces, so that should give some indication of how nasty winter storms can be.
